It Costs How Much?! Why My Prices Are What They Are

A Wee Honest Look Behind the Scenes

If my prices ever seem a bit on the higher side, I’d love to share a small, honest look at what goes on behind the scenes — not to guilt-trip anyone, but just to help explain how things really work for a tiny Scottish business like mine. 💙

It’s Not About Getting Rich

Running this business has never been about making big money. Every price you see is carefully worked out based on small margins, printing costs, and rising expenses. In fact, the margins are so small that sometimes I have to temporarily remove items from a sale because a discount code would wipe out my profit entirely.

This is my full-time job, which means no sick pay, no paid breaks, and no buffer when stress or illness knocks me flat for longer than most people. Add in advertising costs — which often cost more than I make back — and it’s a constant balancing act just to keep things going. 😬

I also use a fulfilment partner to print and ship everything I design. It costs more, but it’s the only way I can keep this business running sustainably. Because of my health, I have to pace my energy carefully — packing and posting orders myself just isn’t something I could manage consistently. Using a fulfilment partner means the products are professionally made, shipped quickly, and it lets me focus my limited energy on creating… which is the part I love, and the part my body actually lets me do. 💙

But I Truly Love What I Do

Despite all of that, I absolutely love running this wee business!

Every day I get to create designs that make people laugh. I get to share Scottish humour with you. And I get these brilliant little moments that make everything worth it:

• Someone with the surname Baldie buying a Baldy Heid Beanie. 😄
• Hearing that people still hang my handmade ornaments on their Christmas trees 10+ years later. 😍
• A customer asking for a custom word on a beanie because of a family in-joke. 🥰
• Messages saying a T-Shirt made a famously crabbit relative laugh and that they hardly ever take it off. 💙

As an introvert who likes the quiet life with my partner and our wee dog, creating is how I connect with people. Every laugh, every order, every kind message… it genuinely makes my day.

No Fancy Lifestyle Here — Just Real Life

I’m not living a luxury life off the back of this business — far from it. Right now I’m saving up for a new iPad because mine is too old for updates and nearly full from all the designs I’ve made this year. Our flat floor needs repaired (maybe even replaced). It’s just normal life stuff — nothing extravagant.

So when you buy from me, you’re not funding a millionaire. You’re supporting a very normal Scottish woman doing her best to make a living through creativity, humour, and a lot of hard work.
